Moday, 04. September 2017 – The informal welcome

30 Startups and 11 weeks ahead – finally we were able to officially welcome this years Kickstarters in Zurich. They came from all over the world; France, South Korea, USA, United Kingdom, Finland, South Africa, India, Ukraine, Ghana, Italy, Ireland, Singapore and Germany to participate in the first joint event at Impact Hub Zurich, where they had the chance to get to know each other as well as the whole Kickstart Team. After a first short introduction to the program, the startups headed to their first vertical-sessions with the respective vertical-leaders. The fun part came in the afternoon, when they got to explore Zurich on a cool foxtrail across the city.

Tuesday, 05. September 2017 – The city reception

‘The guild of the entrepreneurs’ – thats how City of Zurich Mayor Corine Mauch named our 30 startups at the official welcome reception at ‘Zunfthaus zur Waag’, a historic building in Zurich which was home to the linen weavers’ guild back in the 13th century. She thanked all startups for their courage in participating in the accelerator and encouraged them to stay in Zurich – a city with a high quality of living, great infrastructure, small but international at the same time. A great second and warm welcome for our startups!

Wednesday, 06. September 2017 – The business welcome

For once it was not the startups pitching but the corporate partners. In this third welcome event at Kraftwerk, it was time for the partners to present themselves to our startups followed by a networking apéro, where first business exchanges happened.

Thursday, 07. September 2017 – The official welcome

And finally, after a marathon of different welcomes, the official opening ceremony happened at Kraftwerk bringing the startups, corporate partners, politicians and CEO’s together.

Carmen Walker-Späh, Councillor & Head of the National Economic Directorate of Canton Zürich gave the welcome speech, followed by an interesting Interview between Carola Wahl, Member of the Board AXA Strategic Ventures and Marcos Monteiro, Co-Founder of Kickstart Accelerator 2016 IT-Startup Veezoo, who did a Proof of Concept together.

Another highlight were the keynotes from Louis Muhire, Founder and CEO of Mergims, also a Kickstart Accelerator 2016 alumni startup and Niklas Östberg, Co-Founder and CEO of Delivery Hero, who talked about how to get from an idea to an IPO.

These inspiring speeches were topped by the very first public pitches of our Kickstarters 2017 showcasing the high potential of their business ideas.

Stay tuned to find out how they will evolve during the next 11 weeks and #makeithappen
